At Amazon, we are committed to sustainability because it’s a win all around: it’s good for the planet, good for business, for our customers, and for our communities. And we have set ourselves ambitious targets: we have committed to be net-zero carbon across our operations by 2040, with 50% of our shipments net-zero carbon by 2030. We want to work closely with employees and partners to make change happen now and jointly transform the transportation industry. That’s why we launched Amazon FASTforward: Amazon’s virtual transportation sustainability summit focused on Future Advanced Sustainable Transportation.

The event took place on October 6 and 7 and more than 400 carriers from across Europe joined the event to connect with Europe’s leading truck manufacturers, fuel suppliers, policy makers and transportation experts. Among them were Roger Alm, Executive Vice President Volvo Trucks; Andy Marsh, CEO Plug Power; Frank Mühlon, ABB Division President of E mobility; Maja Bakran, Deputy Director-General for Mobility and Transport, EU Commission; Kara Hurst, Amazon Worldwide Vice President of Sustainability; Giorgio Berettini of carrier partners LC3 Transporti; and Francesco Esposito Corcione, Mercitalia Logistics.

This year’s event included 18 presentations, 2 keynotes and two panel discussions, covering all key low-carbon fuel alternatives to diesel and providing deep-dives on infrastructure, fuels, vehicle technology, cost, policy and autonomous driving. Next to presentations and panels, Amazon FASTforward 2021 had a virtual exhibitor area with eleven booths, enabling attendees to connect and network with industry leaders such as ABB, Air Liquide, Amazon Driver Experience booth, IVECO, Mercedes Benz, Neste, Plug Power, Shell, The Climate Pledge, Total Energies and Volvo.

As part of the event, Amazon launched the Sustainable Fleet Awards recognizing Amazon transportation partners’ decarbonization action. Twenty-seven companies were nominated across three award categories and nine winners recognized at the event’s closing ceremony. Prizes include an exclusive and tailored two-day driving experience with a new and fully electric Volvo truck as well as sustainable fuel cards with biomethane-certificates from DKV-Mobility.

We had two incredible days and great feedback from our partners. Seeing the commitment and dedication to drive positive change for our climate makes me extremely optimistic for the future. We look forward to continuing this journey with all of you.
