Customers can support one of currently more than 25,000 organizations in Germany and Austria, at no extra cost to them or the organizations. For every qualifying AmazonSmile purchase, AmazonSmile pays out 0.5% of the purchase price to the customer’s favorite organization.

AmazonSmile has been available to customers in Germany and Austria since November 2016. Since then, a total of 10 million Euros has been disbursed to over 20,000 organizations in both countries. This was enabled by the more than three million Amazon customers who have since ordered products via AmazonSmile. Initiatives seen receiving the most support from customers in Germany and Austria are focused on animal rights and environmental protection, health services, refugee and disaster aid relief, as well as those working with or caring for children and youth.

Since the program was first launched in 2013 in the US, hundreds of thousands of charitable organizations worldwide have received a total of more than 200 million Euros via AmazonSmile. Customers can support one of currently more than 25,000 non-profit organizations in Germany and Austria, at no extra cost to them or the organizations. For every qualifying AmazonSmile purchase, 0.5% of the value of goods sold is distributed to the customer’s organization of choice.

In addition, customers in both countries have reached significant milestones this year. From April to June alone, the total purchases on AmazonSmile generated more than 1 million Euros in disbursements for the first time. In the following third quarter, 1.3 million Euros was generated for the participating charities – amounting to about 15,000 Euros for each day of that period.

A wide range of organizations of all sizes are able to benefit, from large international aid organizations to thousands of smaller or local community organizations, such as the Childaid Network Foundation (Stiftung Childaid Network). Childaid Network is an organization that advocates structural reform and provides long-term assistance for youth in South Asia who lack access to basic education. With support from partners such as AmazonSmile, the foundation can provide help quickly and has already raised a total of over 78,000 Euros from their participation in the program.

Top AmazonSmile non-profit organizations in Germany and Austria

The World Wildlife Fund Germany, the German cancer society DKMS gGmbH and the UNHCR initiative in Germany (UNO-Refugee Aid e.V.) are the most popular non-profit organizations with customers in Germany and Austria.

"With AmazonSmile, countless people have so far contributed to over 1.4 million Euros towards the protection of marine life, our planet’s forests, wild animals and plant species. We at WWF Germany are proud of these many supporters and would like to thank them very much. Together, we are shaping a future in which people and nature will be able to live in harmony,” explains Tania Roach, Marketing & Fundraising Manager at WWF Germany.

“The thought that you can also provide support online without incurring any additional costs is a win-win situation for DKMS. Since our registration with AmazonSmile in 2016, we have raised over 900,000 Euros to date. We are very happy about that - because such a sum simply increases our chance of saving lives. We can only win the fight against blood cancer together regardless of national borders. The support of Amazon's large customer base via AmazonSmile has helped us”, explains Johanna Chiessi, team leader for donor acquisition at the DKMS location in Cologne.

“AmazonSmile is a great way for non-profit organizations to fund their valuable work. Examples such as WWF, DKMS but also countless smaller local non-profit organizations demonstrate how AmazonSmile can become a reliable source of additional income”, says Ralf Kleber, Country Manager Amazon.de.
